20120914-15 Glacier National Park
Finally I made it to the place I missed last year, Glacier National Park (it was snowed out in July)! An awesome destination for towering landscapes and wildlife. I passed through Going into the Sun Road a few times and also made a pass at Many Glaciers a bit to the north.
I arrived on Friday afternoon and worked my way to Logan Pass for a sunset then came out the west side to stay the night in Kalispell. The location at Logan Pass was somewhat amusing because there was a family of three big horned sheep eating food off of the parking lot and photographers in a semicircle following them about 30-40 ft away crouching by/over cars. There was a pretty silly (stupid?) lady who then proceeded to try to walk up to the sheep to pet them making coo coo noises. Then on the flip side there was some young hippy girls screaming their heads off at everyone that we were obstructing the sheep (they went wherever they wanted and everyone... ok.. most everyone backed off). So between the screaming girls (who incidently drove their bright yellow jeep right past the sheep... like that didn't obstruct them...) and the lady who wanted her fingers bitten off..... I took a few pictures and got a good one as one of them left the parking lot back into the back country.
Saturday morning I made a 120 mile drive starting at 4:30 from Kalispell back to the east side of the park (yeah... bad planning on lodging locations? What I do for my Hilton points....) and got to St Mary Lake just in time for a sunset that was nice... but not spectacular as the clouds obscured the early rays of the sun sadly. But it was still a delightful time wandering through the park! The pictures aren't the best but the experience was terrific!
